Travel news of North East India

The Brits can`t get enough of DHR

Siliguri, Feb. 1, 2006: The general manager of North Wales Railways, Peter Lewin, has decided to change the Minford station in UK, to a design similar to the little station of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railways in Sukna, Siliguri.

The people of England, demonstrating their ancient obsession towards the DHR, are also planning to replicate the Sukna Railway Station in the Bedfordshire station, England. Sukna was already set up in the Minford Railway Station a year ago and the DHR locomotive also runs in England, which is similar to its counterparts in Darjeeling.

Adrian Shooter, a British DHR locomotive owner, and the chairman of London’s Chiltern Railway Company was here to attend the 6th annual conference of DHR Lovers Society. He said that there is tremendous demand for replicating the DHR in England and many request are being made by narrow-gauge railway owners to bring the Darjeeling Himalayan Railways magic in the country. This kind of programmes will also popularise the DHR in UK.
