2: His unique voice has baffled scientists and earned him a nomination
for the 48th Grammy Awards in the Best Traditional World Music Album
category: he is Geshe Ngawang Tashi, popularly known as Tashi Lama.
Medical experts in US and Canada had conducted tests on his vocal
chords by inserting a miniature camera through his nose; it was
carried out to find how he could produce multi-phonic sounds which
create an impression of several singers singing together.
His music album Tibetan Master Chants was nominated
for the Best Traditional World Music Album category because of its
uniqueness and mystery. The 48th Annual Grammy Awards will be held
in New York, USA, on February 8.
Besides being a phenomenal singer, Tashi is also
the principal of the Central Institute of Himalayan Culture Studies
located at Dahung, in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, India.
He has traveled around the world for his performances
and enjoys a huge fan following worldwide. His golden voice also
adorns the original soundtrack of the Hollywood movie Seven Years
in Tibet and he performed for the Dalai Lama in Brazil. Apart from
that, he spell bounded his audience at the World Festival of Sacred
Music in California and New York with his performance.
