3, 2006: There is good news for low-budget tourists wanting to visit
the Buxa Tiger Reserve. Forest officials plan to upgrade the two
buildings in the reserve for accommodating tourists who cannot afford
the higher prices of bungalows and rest houses managed by the WBFDC
and the state forest department.
Among the two is the unused hostel for forest
staffs in Damanpur which will be renovated for the purpose. The
new rest house will accommodate 25 people and the lodging charges
will be around Rs 200. Food will be served by the members of the
local forest protection committee. The second rest house will come
up near the Buxa Fort which can accommodate at least 20 people.
The Field director of the reserve opined that this
will provide a great opportunity for tourists to enjoy the wildlife
in the Buxa Tiger Reserve at very cheap rates. Work is scheduled
to start soon on the project.
