Gangtok, Feb.
8: The natural beauty of Sikkim and its scenic locations have finally
succeeded in attracting the film industry from Southern India. Nepali
and Bengali films and other documentaries are regularly shot in
Sikkim.
The mahurat – opening shot – of a commercial
Tamil film was shot at Baluakhani today and the Governor of Sikkim,
V. Rama Rao was also present in the occasion. This success was
due to the road shows organised in Hyderabad in June 2005 by the
Sikkim state tourism department aimed at attracting the south
Indian film industry to shoot their films in Sikkim.
The movie is titled Lemon, directed by M. K. Sai Mohan; it addresses
the issues of terrorism. The shooting will be shot at locales
in Lachung, Yumthang, and among the lakes in North Sikkim. It
is due to be released in mid-April.
The director was so impressed by the natural beauty of Sikkim
that he promised he will recommend other film producers to shoot
there. He also stated that the Sikkim government was very cooperative
during the shooting of the film.
