Ancient relics found in Malda

The Malda district magistrate, Mr CR Das, today instructed the curator of Malda museum, Mr Sadhan Deb, to prepare a report on the historical importance of the relics unearthed recently at various villages in the Bhaganbanpur gram panchayat area in northern Malda.
"Mr Deb visited the spot today to verify the relics found there and on the basis of his report, I would approach the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to determine whether further excavation is necessary at the spot or not," the DM, said. Officials said ancient relics were found while digging ground for the construction of a road under 100-day job scheme in three villages at Bhagabanpur, 17 km from Chanchal town. Ancient brick wall, potteries, well with clay rings, and ancient coins were found, they said. Local researchers found the traces of Pala civilisation with the design of the relics.
The Chanchal BDO, Mr Souvik Chatterjee, visited the spot and stopped the digging work there. If the villagers are to be believed, there is every possibility of an older civilisation situated there. The bones and skulls recovered from the village in recent past were reportedly of longer shapes than the usual human bones. Bhagabanpur has three adjoined villages ~ Josua, Jahirkha and Mollabari. Mojammel Hoque, a local, said: "We have in different times found human bones, skulls and ancient coins while digging soil."
Mr Kamal Basak, a local researcher, said: "Bhagabanpur traces certainly have Pala link. But the skeletons give it a newer dimension. These might be of some Pathans who might have invaded the area 300 years ago."
