Functioning time for new DHR headquarters

The Elysia Bhawan in Dumaram Busty, Kurseong, shall function as the headquarters of the world heritage fame Darjeeling Himalayan Railway from 23 August. The DHR museum housed in the facility will also be inaugurated the same day.
The day also marks the 126th birth anniversary of the DHR, lovingly called the Toy Train by its admirers.
Elysia Bhawan was inaugurated as the DHR head office by Mr Arun Sanwalka, general manager, Northeast Frontier Railway on 3 February 2006 but failed to take off as planned thereafter.
Following this, the edifice had become a source of controversy and voices were raised against the apparent apathy of the Railways’ commitment towards the area’s development. Work is going on full scale at the moment to make the proposed headquarters and the museum inside operational from the desired date. Experts from Delhi have been engaged to develop the museum, which would also be thrown open to the public from 23 August.
Different artefacts associated with the DHR would be housed in the museum. Its history would unfold amidst synchronised light and sound display.
On display would be articles linked with the DHR and its environment, films on the toy train, quaint tickets dating back a century, magazines on the DHR, topographic model of the DHR routes and several other items promising a nostalgic tour.
