Madan Mohan puja to be dearer by a rupee

Worshipping Lord Madan Mohan, the guardian deity of Cooch Behar would become dearer from September. The temple authorities have also decided to increase the accommodation tariff at the Anandamoyee dharmashala, which is adjacent to the temple.
Devotees would have to pay a rupee more for coupons required to offer puja to the deity from September. The decision to increase the price of coupons was taken in a meeting of the Cooch Behar Debottar Trust Board recently. The CBDTB is the caretaker body of the temples and places of worships that were established in the regime of erstwhile Maharajas. It runs under the state tourism department.
According to the CBDTB sources, the coupons, which till now is sold at a rate of Rs 2 only at Madan Mohan temple would cost a rupee more from September. The coupons would be available at the entrance of the temple complex. The accommodation charge of the adjacent Anandamoyee dharmashala would also be hiked. Boarders would have to pay Rs 50 and Rs 60 per head instead of Rs 40 to get accommodation at the dormitory.
The coupon system was introduced at the Madan Mohanbari in 1998 to increase the temple’s income for maintenance. Initially the coupons were priced at rupee one and then it was increased by another rupee. “The board wants to offer more facilities to the devotees for which, funds are required. The required funds would be raised through the coupons,” the trustee board officials, said.
