A three member Airport Authority of India
team including its executive director, eastern region, Mr
SPS Bakshi visited Karnajora near Raiganj in North Dinajpur
district to identify a spot for a proposed airstrip, today.
“A report of the visit would be submitted following
which, higher officials would also visit the spot. The decision
to set up an airstrip in Raiganj would come thereafter,”
Mr Bakshi, said.
Asked why the AAI, which has plans to set up an airstrip at
Balurghat in South Dinajpur district and at Malda, was planning
to set up another airstrip at Raiganj, which is located between
Balurghat and Malda and is about 60 km from either locations,
the AAI officials said that Raiganj was showing signs of emerging
as a major business hub. “Air service could be started
from Raiganj to Behala, Kolkata and Agartala.
