Siliguri is going to host East Himalaya
Expo, an international trade fair in the Pragati Vihar Maidan.
It will start on 25 December and continue up to 31 December.
The exhibition will be organised by India Trade Promotion
Organisation, a government of India enterprise, in collaboration
with the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FOCIN)
and Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority and some other
organisations. The mayor of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation,
Mr Bikash Ghosh will inaugurate the fair and Mr Yogesh Barman,
the backward class welfare minister, West Bengal Government
will be present on the occasion.
It is learnt that Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan
and Myanmar will take part and the ITPO is trying to ensure
the participation from rest of the country, particularly in
sectors which are relevant from the point of view of the industrial
and economic development of the eastern and north eastern
region.
The general secretary of FOCIN, Mr Biswajit Das, said that
the fair would widen the scope and activities of the entrepreneurs
and traders of this region and introduce them with the international
buyers and sellers. ‘This is the first time such an
international trade fair is being held in north Bengal and
it will definitely strengthen the opportunity of technology
transfer and up gradation of know-how.
