New picnic spot to save Kulick bird sanctuary

With an objective to save Kulick bird sanctuary from pollution the authorities of Raiganj social forestry division have contemplated to set up a separate picnic spot near the Kulick bird sanctuary in Raiganj. In this picnic spot the Raiganj social forestry division will provide water facilities, some shades, toilets, a small park and a foot track after spending around Rs 12 lakh from the fund of different heads of the district.
The divisional forest officer of Raiganj social forestry division Mr Ashis Sen said, between December to February numerous visitors from different districts of West Bengal and Bihar visit Kulik forest in Raiganj. Most of them are intended to organise picnic. But in last few years we stopped organising picnic in the premises of Kulick bird sanctuary as it could disturb the migratory birds of the sanctuary. Apart from this, the forest premises was being polluted.
After the ban has been imposed the visitors who have an intention to organise picnic near Kulick bird sanctuary are facing a trouble to find out a spot for picnic. Reportedly a section of visitors are not visiting the forest as because the picnic has been banned here.
After a study it seems to us that a new picnic spot near Kulick bird sanctuary will help us to draw the attention of more visitors to the Kulick forest. So we have decided to construct a picnic spot near Bhattadighi,a place near Kulick bird sanctuary where we will provide water arrangement, toilets, small park and foot track.
The parties who will organise picnic here will have to provide an amount to the forest department against their use of picnic spot. We have already prepared a plan and estimate which has been submitted to the district planning committee asking approval.
As soon as we receive approval we will start the construction work. The district magistrate of North Dinajpur Mr Sukumar Bhattacharjee said: “the authorities of Raiganj social forestry division have submitted this plan to our district planning committee and their subject will be discussed in our next meeting with great importance.
