Manipur is on top of the medal tally,
winning seven gold medals, at the end of the second day of
the 21st North-East Sports Festival here today.
Manipur won two gold medals in athletics while dominating
in the archery event by claiming five gold medals in 50 metre
category.
The hosts, Sikkim, is second in the medal tally with six gold
medals at the end of the second day of the event. Meghalaya
is occupying the third spot with five gold medals in its kitty.
The first gold medal for Sikkim was bagged by Suraj Chamling
in karate in below 35-kg category yesterday. Four other karate
players won gold medals for Sikkim today in different categories
with Meghalaya also gathering five gold medals in the same
event. The sixth gold medal for Sikkim came in the athletics
event held at Rangpo ground today in 10,000 metre race.
However, Assam dominated the athletics event by winning four
gold medals. Assamese player Pramila Vharali won two gold
medals in discus throw and shot put event. Her teammates Priyadevi
won the 200 metre race while Rajiv Tamuli won the gold medal
in shot put event for men.
Arunachal Pradesh has also won three gold medals.
Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh have reached the finals in
badminton for women.
In badminton, the semifinals were held at Paljor indoor stadium
today. Nagaland beat Tripura by 2-0 while Arunachal Pradesh
beat Manipur by 2-1. In men badminton, Assam and Nagaland
have reached the finals. Assam beat Manipur by 2-0 in today's
semifinals while Nagaland beat Mizoram 2-0.
In men's football event held at Palzor stadium, Meghalaya
defeated Arunachal Pradesh 3-1. In other matches, Manipur
defeated Mizoram 2-0 and Mizoram hammered Tirpura 5-1 in women's
football event played at the TNA ground. The match between
Sikkim and Nagaland ended in a draw.
