Foresters to train pupils

The Raiganj social forestry division has planned to hold an environmental education programme for the students during this year's forest week from 14 to 20 July.
Members of the Raiganj Bigyan Mancha (RBM) have supported the initiative. As part of the training programme, forest officials and the RBM members would take the students of various schools in the town to the Kulick bird sanctuary on 19 July. The students would be acquainted with migratory birds, trees and plants.

Mr AK Das, divisional forest officer of the Raiganj social forestry division, said: "We would hold classes to help the students learn about wildlife. Sit-and-draw and essay competitions would also be
organised."

Mr Das added that government employees, panchayat members and the NGOs would plant a large number of saplings in different parts of North Dinajpur district to mark the forest week.
"We have planned to plant over one lakh saplings in the nine blocks of the district. The saplings would also be planted in the rural areas with the help of the gram panchayat members," Mr Das, added.
Mr Sambhu Chakraborty, secretary of the North Dinajpur Co-ordination Committee, said that the government employees would also take part in planting of saplings.
