The seven-day long Ratha-Yatra festival of Lord Madan Mohan began in Cooch Behar on 16 July 2007. Fairs were organised in front of Madan Mohan temple on the bank of Bairagi-dighi and at Gunjabari on the occasion. Ratha carried the deity of Lord Madan Mohan from temple to the residence of his maternal aunt at Gunjabari as per the age-old tradition. Hundreds of devotees had gathered to pull the holy chariot. Lord Madan Mohan will stay at his Masir Bari (residence of his maternal aunt) till the Ulto Rath festival. A large number of police personnel were deployed on the occasion to maintain peace.
