Heavy rainfall over the past two days
has created a flood-like situation in North Dinajpur and South
Dinajpur districts.
Water level of all major rivers in North Dinajpur is on the
rise. The Kulick water, meanwhile, has flooded farmland here.
According to officials, the water level of the Dauk river
at Chopra, the Mahananda at Islampur, the Nagar and the Sudani
at Karandighi, the Kahalai at Hemtabad, the Sreemoti at Kaliyaganj
and the Sui at Itahar has risen owing to incessant rainfall
over the past few days.
Irrigation officials would visit the flood-prone areas in
the district tomorrow to observe the situation and take precautionary
measures.
Mr Sandip Dey, the executive engineer of North Dinajpur irrigation
department, said:
“Farmland would be inundated in the district if the
rain continued. We have taken precautionary steps to deal
with floods.”
Meanwhile, the water level of the Aatreyee at Balurghat, the
Punarbhaba at Gangarampur and the Tangan at Banshihari in
South Dinajpur district has also risen.
Mr Swapan Kumar Chattapadhaya, the district Magistrate of
South Dinajpur, said: “The situation is not alarming
yet. There is nothing to panic.
