Forest guards apprehend bison in

A wild bison that sneaked into Mathura Tea Estate in the Dooars yesterday was apprehended this morning by the forest personnel with the help of tranquiliser bullets. The bison was later released into Chilapata forest.
It may be recalled that the frightened villagers had killed a bison yesterday at Pakuritala village in the Dooars. A herd of six bison from Chilapata forest had sneaked into Birpara area in Alipurduar yesterday. These bison had created panic among the villagers. At last, the villagers killed one of the six. One person of Chapatali village and several cattle were injured by the bison. Forest personnel and the villagers tried their best to drive away the bison. Finally, three bison were apprehended with tranquiliser bullets. Among the remaining three, one sneaked into Mathura Tea Estate area where it was apprehended this morning. On the other hand, forest officials have started a probe to find out the actual cause behind the bison raid. A senior forest official opined that this is the mating season for the bison and they need a large area for the mating process. This may be a cause behind their entry into the human land, the officer, said.
