Plea to introduce job scheme in Cooch Behar

Demanding introduction of the 100 day job guarantee scheme in Cooch Behar, the CPI-affiliated All India Youth Federation (AIYF), Cooch Behar district council, organised a convention yesterday.
The secretary of the AIYF district council Mr Subrata Naha said that Cooch Behar was not in the list of 10 West Bengal districts when the 100 day job guarantee scheme was introduced in the first phase. “According to the Union Budget, 130 new districts are to be included in the scheme and Cooch Behar should not be excluded from that list this time or, it would be considered as an act of indifference towards Cooch Behar,” he said.
The speakers said that industrial units should be set up on non-fertile land instead of fertile and cultivable land and agro-based industries should be encouraged. The speakers criticised some youth organisations that were supporting the anti-youth policies of the state government.
The AIYF leaders demanded job security for the unemployed trained youth who received primary teachers’ training in the state. “The state government cannot shrug off its responsibility towards the unemployed youth,” they stated. Mr Naha said that a resolution had been adopted at the convention demanding revival of the North Bengal State Transport Corporation to create job opportunities. A large unit like the NBSTC is on the verge of ruin but neither the Centre nor the state government were taking steps to save it. The AISF would continue its fight to save the NBSTC, Mr Naha said.
