Travel news of North East India

It’s time for Sikkim singers to excel

A new singing competition would be organised during Rabong Discovered, a popular tourist festival, to be held at Ravangla in South Sikkim from 8 April to 12 April, courtesy an innovative talent hunt.
Coordinated and implemented by Ravangla Tourism Development Committee (RTDC), the preliminary rounds of the talent hunt ~ Swar Sikkim ~ will commence on 24 March and end on 30 March. Registrations are currently on for the hopefuls.
“We have made the registration process very simple. Registrations can be done through a telephone call or filling up the form online”, said Mr Rakesh Somani, event manager, at a Press conference here today.
A publicity blitz is also underway for the talent hunt across the state.
A van has been hired to make announcement about the event and distribute pamphlets in the entire state to spot the best talents, hidden in the interior areas.
The three-day preliminary auditions will start here on 24 March, involving contestants from East and North districts. A similar audition will be hosted at Namchi for South and West districts, Mr Somani, said.
The semifinal will be held in April and 10 best candidates will sing for the coveted title at Ravangla on 8 April, in front of a live audience.
Contestants will have to be a Sikkimese citizen and in the age group of 18-30 years for a shot at the title where much lies in store for the winners. The first three winners will be sponsored by the state culture department for classical vocal training at a renowned institute of the country, said MrChunnil Lal Ghimeray, a member of the publicity committee.
The winners will also receive priority for a government job, he said.
A private company will also be producing free audio albums for the top two singers and another will be sponsoring one video album each for the top three contestants.
