The 10-day craft bazaar, organised by
Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation (MHHDC),
began at the Old Children’s Park here today. More than
150 participants from all across the country have put up their
stalls at the fair.
Ms Namrata Thapa, director, DHH, inaugurated the fair today.
“The objective of the craft bazaar is to provide direct
marketing outlets to the participating crafts persons living
in far-flung, remote and hilly areas, thereby eliminating
the role of middlemen,” she said. “Handicrafts
is an important sector. It plays a very significant role in
the country’s economy, besides providing employment
to a large number of crafts persons in rural and urban areas
and generating substantial foreign exchange”, Ms Thapa,
said.
Managing director of MHHDC, Mr W Nilmani Singh, said craft
bazaar is a national handicrafts expo.
