The 8th Siliguri International Film Festival
started today. The programme is being organised jointly by
the Siliguri Cine Society with the West Bengal Information
and Cultural Affairs Department at Dinabandhu Mancha.
According to the organisers, 14 films from 12 countries would
be screened in the festival during the six-day long film festival.
The Valley of the Wolves, which depicts the political situation
of Iraq, directed by Serdar Akar was screened today on the
inaugural evening of the festival.
The general secretary of the SCS Mr Pradip Nag informed: “Selected
films from the Kolkata Film Festival would be screened in
the festival. Films from Brazil, Greece, Hungary, Poland,
The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sri Lanka and Iraq would be screened
in the festival including one Indian film Drishtantham in
Malayali language directed by Sukumar Nair.
Brazilian film producer Mr Antonio Urano inaugurated the film
festival today. The director of the Kolkata Film Festival
Mr Nilanjan Chattapadhya and urban development minister Mr
Asok Bhattacharya were also present at the programme.
