Siliguri would get its second fire station
on Sunday (6 April). The station would be set up at Paribahan
Nagar, Matigara on the outskirts of the town.
Giving details of the upcoming fire station Mr Palden Lama,
the divisional officer of the Siliguri Fire Service station,
said that the second fire station would benefit large areas
spreading across Naxalbari, Phansidewa and Naxalbari apart
from Matigara itself. "The necessity of the second fire
station was being felt as the town is expanding apace with
time. Development works are going on in full swing. Along
with it, the fire threat is also growing. We like to remain
prepared for any eventuality," Mr Lama added.
The Siliguri fire service divisional officer further said
that the second fire station in the town was going to be the
12th under the 'H' Division of the service network. "We
are covering the entire Darjeeling Hill areas apart from the
plains of the district, North and South Dinajpurs and Malda.
The new one would have an underground water reservoir of its
own. Around 60 employees would serve the station," Mr
Lama added.
