Mr Asok Bhattacharya, urban development
minister of West Bengal, today said that a new planetarium
is set to open soon in Siliguri.
This announcemment came after he inaugurated the newly built
3D vision theatre at the North Bengal Science Centre on the
occasion of its 11th anniversary at the NBSC auditorium in
Matigara near Siliguri today. Over 50 lakhs has been spent
for the construction of the 55-seater planetarium at the centre,
which will be inaugurated on March 2009.
The minister informed that the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development
Authority was planning to construct a 3D virtual reality room
on the lines of the ones in Beijing and Shanghai in China.
Dr Jayanta Sthanapati, director, Birla Industrial and Technological
Museum, Kolkata, announced that as a reward to the people
of Siliguri and its outskirts for their co-operation in the
successful running of the center they would start a new gallery,
“Fascinating Physics,” at the center on August
17 next year.
Mr Rajiv Nath, project coordinator, NBSC informed that six
shows, each of 15 minutes duration and comprising of two short
films, Shark Island and Master of Magic, will be held from
11:00 a.m till 5:30 p.m at the 50-seater 3D vision theatre
everyday.
The rates of the tickets for the shows have been fixed at
Rs.7 and the viewers will be supplied special Polaroid glasses
by the center to experience and enjoy the effects. There will
be special concession for students from educational institutions
in and around Siliguri. A letter by the heads of their institutes
will grant them a special concession of Rs 2.
