An eight-member team from Sikkim has gone
to Kerala as part of its cross country expedition to promote
Sikkim tourism in the national scene.
The team comprises qualified tourism administrators, travel
operators, trekking guides and a professional photographer.
The team aims to cover 26 states and five Union territories
before returning to Sikkim on April 23. "The budget earmarked
for the expedition was about Rs 2.25 lakh, partly met by the
Sikkim government, private businessmen and the tourism business
fraternity," said Mr Kishore Chettri, a member Sikkim
Tourism Cooperative Society.
Sikkim is a popular tourist destination and offers great relief
from the scorching heat of the plains with snow-clad mountains,
including the highest mountain peak in the country, Mt. Kanchenjunga,
ample adventure tourism activities like trekking, white water
rafting, mountain biking and camping, said Mr Chhetri.
