N Dinajpur gets train to Delhi

The announcement of a new train service between Radhikapur, a station near the Indo-Bangladesh border of North Dinajpur district, and Delhi in the Railway Budget 2008-2009 rendered great excitement to the local residents of Raiganj. They celebrated the occasion by bursting crackers and exchanging of sweets. This train will run once in a week. members of the Congress party staged a rally this afternoon in Raiganj and congratulated the Union I&B and parliamentary affairs minister and Congress MP from Raiganj Mr Priyaranjan Dasmunshi. Though the residents of all communities including traders had more demands, but they too seized the moment to engage in some revelry.
Mr Jainarayan Somani, the general secretary of West Dinajpur Chamber of Commerce(a trade body of both North and South Dinajur district) said: "We had more demands. We wanted an inter-city train services between Radhikapur and NewJalpaiguri. But at least our traders will be able to reach Delhi directly from their hometown Raiganj, without facing any hazards." The chairman of Raiganj municipality and the president of North Dinajpur Congress Committee Mr Mohit Sengupta said: "Around one lakh labourers have to visit Delhi for works from our district every year. Such labourers will benefit from this service. The students and businessmen of our districts will also benefit from this train service.”
