New colleges rely on retired lecturers

Retired lecturers from the existing colleges in Siliguri would be inducted as teaching faculty for the two new colleges coming up at Sevoke Road and Naxalbari in Siliguri sub-division.
According to Mr Partha Sarathi Das, principal-in-charge of the Munshi Prem Chand Mahavidalaya coming up at Sevoke Road, the college would recruit five subject teachers for English, Bengali, History, Political Science and Education on a part-time basis. Likewise, the Naxalbari Mahavidalaya would also hire five part-time teachers.
“Our priority would be to induct retired lecturers, but in case there is scarcity, we would give appointment to part-time lecturers already engaged by the existing colleges in Siliguri,” Mr Das said. Meanwhile, the issuing of forms and the admission process for the two new colleges is simultaneously commencing from tomorrow. As per the authorities, while the admission forms for the Munshi Prem Chand Mahavidalaya would be available at the Shieumangal Singh High School, Haidarpara, the forms for the Naxalbari Mahavidalaya would be disbursed from the Nandaprashad High School, Naxalbari from 7 a.m. The admission process would continue till 23 July.
Classes for the two new colleges, expected to commence on 21 July, would be held between 6 and 11 a.m. at the two high schools mentioned above.
According to the state urban development minister and the Siliguri MLA, Mr Asok Bhattacharya, on 12 August, the state higher education minister would personally lay the foundation stone for the permanent campus of the two new colleges.
