Day
1 : Reach NJP / Bagdogra in the morning. Reception and
breakfast in Siliguri. Drive to Gangtok after breakfast. Evening
free for a walk around the market area.
Day 2 : Morning drive to Lachen,
a recent additions to the tourist map of Sikkim. At an altitude
of 9000 feet, Lachen is about 6 hours drive from Gangtok.
The village comprises of barely 150 houses, earlier inhabited
only during the winters by their owners who spend the summers
on the alpine pastures along the Tibet border tending to their
flock of yaks. Overnight at Lachen.
Day 3 : Start early in the morning
for Thangu (30 km). At an altitude of 13,000 ft, the valley
is carpeted with alpine flowers that are replaced by snow
from October through March. Continue your journey to Chopta
Valley (13,200 ft). Just a 20 minutes drive from Thangu, this
valley provides one of the few accessible places in Sikkim
where a visitor can actually walk over frozen rivers. The
riot of colors during spring is in sharp contrast to the serene
white of the winter in this place. Continue further to Gurudongmar
Lake. The blessed water of this lake is believed to posses
the miraculous
power of granting children to issueless couples. Situated
at an altitude of 17,100 feet, this is one of the highest
tourist spots in the world. The lake freezes over during winters
except at one spot which the devout believe has been specially
blessed. Interestingly, the myth of Gurudongmar is believed
as reverentially be the Sikhs as by the local Buddhists.(Foreign
tourists are not allowed to visit Gurudongmar. They have to
return from Lachen).
Day 4 : Drive to Gangtok. Reach Gangtok
in the afternoon. Evening at leisure at Gangtok.
Day 5 : Full day excursion to Nathula
Pass- the Indo-China Border at 14000ft, Tsongo Lake at 12000ft.
(Nathula pass is open for tourists only on specified dates.
On other days the tour will be limited to Tsongo lake). Back
to Gangtok in the afternoon. Free evening for marketing of
traditional handicrafts. (ONH: Gangtok)
Day 6 : Return to NJP / Bagodgra
airport as per onward / return journey schedule. Tour concludes.
