Yuksom
(1740m) is end of the motorable road. This is the starting
point for treks to Dzongri. A tourist destination on its own
right, there are nice resorts in Yuksom including the famous
Hotel Tashi Gang.
Bakhim (2700m) - A trek
of about 16 km from Yuksom leads you to Bakhim. This is the
first and one of the most treacherous phases of the entire
trek. There is a trekkers hut at Bakhim. Apart from the family
members of the caretaker this region is devoid of any human
settlement.

A group of trekkers at Yuksom on their way back from Dzongri
Tshoka (3400m) Tshoka is
one of the ideal places to watch the sunrise over Mt. Pandim.
Settlement is sparse but cultivation of various crops in summer
is a common practice. It is about 2 km from Bakhim. This is
your next night halt after Bakhim. Or trekkers may travel
directly to Tsoka and skip a night stay at Bakhim.
Thansing is a days trek
Tshoka. You can go to Dzongri directly without coming to Thansing
also. It is the base camp of the virgin peak, Mt. Pandim.
The razor sharp peak of Narsing is a sight to be gazed at.From
Thansing you can trek to Dzongri or to the Samiti, a place
famous for its beautiful lake and the reflection of Pandim
in its water.
Goecha La - The trek from
Jemathang to Goecha La is to be traversed through a desert
of huge chunks of boulders.
The fascinating walls of massive cluster of peaks of Kanchendzonga
leaves you breathless. The magnificent views of the peaks
of Pandim, Kanchendzonga, North and South Kabru, Talung Rathong,
Kokthang, Black Kabru, Kabru Dome, Gocha Peak tends to create
an illusion of storehouse of tons and tons of ice cream.
The sound of falling boulders and ice due
to the small avalanches from the walls of the massive into
the small lakes creates a reverberating ambience into the
silence and stillness of the whole environment. Gocha La is
the ultimate trekking destination of your dream. |
