Roing

Roing is an important town in the Himalayan foothills of eastern Arunachal Pradesh. It is the headquarter of the Lower Dibang Valley district and is the base for your travel to Anini and Dibang valley. The small town of about 12000 population mainly consists of Mishmi and Adi people. Roing has an altitude of about 390 meters above sea level. The journey into the hills starts immediately after you cross Roing town and the Deopani river beside which Roing is established.

Getting There

Dibrugarh in Assam is the nearest major city with both flight and rail connectivity. It is about 150 km from Roing and takes about 4 hours to travel.

Mayodia Pass - Approximately 56 Km from Roing town on your way toward Dibang valley is the location of Mayodia Pass. It is situated at 2655 meters. The pass is popular as it is a vantage point to view the snow-capped mountains of Chinese Tibet and Eastern Arunachal Pradesh.

Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary - Mehao wildlife sanctuary surrounds Mehao lake which has crystal clear water and spectacular view. It is approximately 14 Km from Roing town and is an ideal trekking destination. The place is famous for birds, and other rare species in and around the lake and in the wildlife sanctuary including wild ducks, red panda, Takin, leopard, etc.

Sally Lake - Another famous place in Roing is Sally lake just 3 Km from the town. The crystal clear water with varieties available in the lake, and boating facilities are available in this place for the tourists to enjoy the surrounding gushing views.

Local People and their Culture

Adi and Mishmi are the major people settled in and around Roling. Farming & Agriculture are the main sources of people in this area along with tourism. The local people have a very high literacy rate of about 90% compared to our national average of just 65%
