Selim Hill Tea Garden

Selim Hill Garden in Darjeeling hills witnesses a history of over 150 years with the sturdy Bungalow made of wood and stone. The garden was established by the British Planter Mr Henry during the 19th Century. Perched on a hill slope at over 3000ft at a distance of 35kms from Siliguri Selim Hill gives an excellent view of the river valleys of Balason and Tista along with a glimpse of Kanchenjunga Massif over the Kurseong Town. This is also a nice place for viewing sunrise and sunset.

The garden produces one of the finest qualities of orthodox tea and is regarded as a Biodynamic garden and a good study centre for tea processing. The garden also provides a good opportunity for short forest and village hikes, birding and experiencing the famous 150 years old Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) from Tindharia and Gayabari.

2 nights 3 days at Selim Hills - An Escape in time

Day 1: Arrival and check-in at Selim Hills. The journey winds up the road through the forested hills with an open view of vast plains below. Your magical moments of tea tourism start with a warm welcome at the Tea Bungalow with a cup of hot-flavoured Darjeeling tea.  Spend an afternoon at leisure on the bungalow lawn looking at the natural canvas.

Day 2: Today we explore the garden with the manager and experience the process of tea manufacturing with tea plucking, a factory visit followed by tea testing of various blends of Darjeeling flavour. Later after lunch, we can go for a hike to the nearby village to interact with the garden workers and to see their livelihoods. An alternate option is to go for an exciting ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan railway from Tindharia Heritage Station or an excursion to Kurseong town. Back to the bungalow and spend the rest of the day lazily with a book. Or an enthusiast can hike to the Sunset spot for a brilliant view of the Sunset on the horizon. The evening will mark by a thumping tribal musical show with dance and bonfire performed by the garden workers.

Day 3: Walk to the nearby forest early morning for a bird-watching tour for a couple of hours before checking out from Selim Hills. Tour ends with breakfast and a warm farewell from the garden and drives to the onward destination.

Additional night at Selim Hill

For an additional one-night stay you can go for an excursion to Darjeeling by Darjeeling Himalayan rail from Tindharia Heritage Station on the third day. The journey itself is an experience as the nostalgic toy train chugging its way through the forests and tea garden on the picturesque Darjeeling hills. The journey can be a combination of both train and a car to help you reach faster in Darjeeling.

The other option is to have an excursion into the Mahananda Wildlife sanctuary, where the wild elephant and Tigers roam freely.

We will return to the Garden by the evening and spend the night in the cosy comfort with the warmth of the fireplace.
