Night Landing Facilities at Bagdogra Airport (IXB) have been completed and the service is starting today i.e. 1st October, 2013 by Spice Jet with the maiden run from Kolkata reaching Bagdogra Airport  at 07:00 P M (1900 Hours)

 

Communication from the Indian Air Force authorities  mentioned that  the runway can be used till 10 PM (2000 Hours). "It is good news for all of us as we have been trying over the years for introduction of night landing facilities at the airport" said K.K. Bhowmik, the airport director of Bagdogra.

 

Representatives of the tourism industry in north Bengal have welcomed the step. "It is indeed good news for us. We thank both the state and Centre and agencies concerned for making this facility possible in Bagdogra" said Tapash Roy (Sadhan), the general secretary of Eastern Himalaya Travel and Tour Operators’ Association.

 

A high-level meeting among the Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials, representatives from Ministry of Civil Aviation and West Bengal government and DGCA declared that night landing at Bagdogra Airport (IXB) will start today i.e. 1st October, 2013 sending cheers among fliers from Siliguri city, neighbouring towns and adjacent state of Sikkim. 

 

There have been night landings and take-offs, but those have been limited to VIPs or in cases of emergencies.The first domestic flights at nights operates from Bagdogra today.

 

Bagdogra airport, which caters to air passengers across north Bengal, neighbouring Sikkim and parts of Bihar also.Even tourist from Neighbouring countries like Nepal and Bhutan who reaches Siliguri in the evening can avail the flight from here thus saving precious time. This also is a big boost to tourism in this part of the country.  

 

The first flight from Kolkata is scheduled to land at 7:00 P M and will take off for Kolkata at 7:30 PM similarly flight from Delhi is also scheduled today. To facilate traveller to reach Siliguri (10 Kilometers) vehicle will be made available at the airport. (Cell: +91973346500)
