Tashichho Dzong, also known as the "Fortress of the Glorious Religion," is a majestic monastery and fortress in Thimphu. Serving as the seat of Bhutan's government since 1952, it houses the throne room, offices of the king, and various government ministries. The Dzong's striking white-washed walls and golden-tipped roofs are surrounded by beautiful gardens. It is also the summer residence of Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot of Bhutan.

The BBS Tower, or Sangaygang, is a popular viewpoint in Thimphu, offering panoramic views of the city and the surrounding Himalayan landscape. Located at an elevation of 2,685 meters, the tower is named after the Bhutan Broadcasting Service, whose radio tower is situated here. The drive to the tower is scenic, with pine forests and glimpses of traditional Bhutanese life. The viewpoint is especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset, providing breathtaking vistas and photographic opportunities of Thimphu's valley and landmarks.

The Government Handicrafts Emporium in Thimphu is a treasure trove of Bhutanese arts and crafts. The emporium is an excellent place to purchase authentic Bhutanese souvenirs and supports local artisans by promoting their crafts.

The National Memorial Chorten is one of Thimphu's most iconic landmarks, built in 1974 in memory of Bhutan's third king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The Chorten's whitewashed walls, gilded spires, and intricate mandalas make it a visually stunning and spiritually significant site.

The National Institute of Traditional Medicine in Thimphu is a centre for the study and practice of Bhutanese traditional medicine. While visitors can only view the institute from the outside, it is renowned for its role in preserving Bhutan's ancient healing arts. The institute produces traditional herbal medicines and trains practitioners in the art of indigenous healing.

The Motithang Takin Preserve in Thimphu is a unique wildlife sanctuary dedicated to the takin, Bhutan's national animal. This rare and peculiar-looking animal, with the body of a cow and the head of a goat, is indigenous to the Himalayan region.
